Montego Pet Nutrition was founded in early 2000 in Graaff-Reinet, South Africa, in the heart of the Karoo. Established by Hannes van Jaarsveld, the company was built on a strong foundation of entrepreneurial drive, family values, quality, and innovation—principles that continue to guide the organisation today.

From inception, a commitment to excellence has underpinned every aspect of the business. This has translated into the continuous refinement of product formulations, ongoing investment in advanced manufacturing facilities, expansion of infrastructure, and the enhancement of operational capabilities. These efforts reflect not only a passion for pet nutrition but also a clear and sustained vision for the Montego Pet Nutrition brand.

What began as a modest operation producing approximately 65 tons of pet food per month has grown into a large-scale enterprise producing in excess of 300 tons per day.

Starting with a single product offering, Montego Pet Nutrition has expanded its portfolio to include nine high-quality brands and more than 180 products. These products serve a diverse range of market segments, both locally and internationally. Over time, the organisation has evolved from a small, ambitious start-up into a recognised household name across South Africa, with a steadily growing presence in global markets.

Today, Montego Pet Nutrition exports its products to more than 20 countries worldwide, spanning Africa, Europe, and the United States. In the United States, the super-premium KAROO Wild and Bags O’ Wags treat ranges are distributed through major channels, reaching over 1,000 independent retailers. The company’s European footprint includes countries such as Greece, Romania, Cyprus, and the Netherlands, while its African distribution network extends across SADC and broader regions, including Namibia, Botswana, Ghana, Nigeria, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Mozambique, Malawi, Eswatini, and Mauritius.
